DIY Champagne Wall

I kept seeing champagne walls on Instagram and Pintrest but couldn’t find instructions on how to DIY one. So I just made it up.

Supplies:

  • Plywood (you can find a large sheet of this at Home Depot for $15. They will even cut it down to the size you need.
  • Paper to create the template
  • Ruler
  • AstroTurf (I got mine from Home Depot). When I went back to get the wood, I did see they had a rug made to look like fake grass that was cheaper and thinner (which would be easier to cut)
  • Dowel Rods (I bought mine on Amazon)
  • Carpet cutter
  • Sandpaper
  • Drill
  • Heavy Duty Glue, my dad picked this up for me at a hardware store
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun + Sticks
  • Champagne Glasses (I got mine from Target, they came in a 4-pack for $4)
  • Paint + Paint Brush (I had leftover paint from our house)
  • Paint for the Dowel Rods (I bought rose gold paint from Target)

Steps:

  1. Measure the size of the champagne glasses and figure out the placement of where the pegs need to be.
  2. Use the template to create the marks on the board and drill the holes.
  3. To make sure the pegs can fit through the holes, roll the sandpaper up and insert it into the hole. Pull the sandpaper in and out to sand the holes until the pegs can fit easily.
  4. Paint the rods. I used gold acrylic paint I had laying around and then did a top coat with the rose gold paint from Target).
  5. Paint the front and the back of the board and the sides.
  6. Cut the AstroTurf to be a bit larger then the size of the board.
  7. Glue the AstroTurf down to the board.
  8. Cut the AstroTurf down to the size of the board once the glue is dry. This will ensure the edges are a clean cut.
  9. Using one leg of the scissors, poke the holes through the AstroTurf so the pegs can side through to the back of the board.
  10. Use hot glue to cover the pegs and the back of the board to ensure they are secure.
  11. Add the champagne glasses and bubbly.
  12. Enjoy your champagne wall at all of your future events!

*Side Note: I did not measure how big I truly needed the board, so I actually had to cut the wood down my self (luckily it was one side that needed to be cut).
