We’ve all heard the saying you can shorten it and wear it again when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. Well I put that saying to the test. Granted this bride hand picked the dress color based on each person’s skin tone and hair color and then left picking the dress to each of the bridesmaid. Since this dress is not Tiffany blue like my first bridesmaid’s dress , I’ll actually wear it again!
Just an FYI my dress is from Azazie.com
What you’ll need:
- Scissors
- Thread
- Sewing Machine
- Chalk Pen
- measuring tape/ruler
- Pins
- Iron
- Someone to help measure
Steps:
1. Put the dress on and have someone help measure from the floor up where you want the dress to be. For me, I wanted this to be midi length.
2. Subtract that number by 1 inch for seam allowance.
3. Using the ruler measure that mount and mark with the chalk pen. Measure all the way around the dress. (I did this for the bottom layer of the dress, using chalk to mark tulle doesn’t work).
4. Cut the fabric where your markings were created.
5. For the tulle I used a dress form to measure up and cut. This can also be done on a table or if you have someone willing to cut the tulle for you while you wear the dress.
6. For the bottom layer of the dress that needs to be hemmed, fold up 1/2 inch iron and fold up again 1/2 so the raw edge of the fabric is no longer exposed. Iron this again and sew either by hand or using a sewing machine.
7. Enjoy wearing your bridesmaid dress again!
