Cat Placemats

Since we didn’t really decorate much for Halloween due to attending 3 weddings this month, I decided to whip up some cat placemats to use with our Halloween dinner. For those of you following on my Instagram story, these were supposed to be the something baty (aka bat placemats) but my husband insisted on them being black cats.

Supplies:

  • Clear vinyl you can buy at any craft store in the home dĂ©cor fabric section.
  • Paper Scissors
  • Tread
  • Poster Board
  • Pencil
  • Plate
  • Ruler
  • Sewing Machine
  • Glitter

Steps:

1. Place the plate upside down on the poster board and trace the edge with the pencil.

2. Use the ruler and add an inch to the circle so the cat will be larger then the plate.

3. Add Ears to the circle, I wish I would have made mine a bit farther apart but I can live with what I made. If you want the ears to match perfectly, draw one and fold the circle in half to cut both ears at the same time.

4. Cut the circle out.

5. Use the pattern to cut out the vinyl. Since I didn’t want to create holes in the vinyl I carefully cut the cat out without pinning it down.

6. Sew around the edges of the cat at 1/4 seam allowance leaving a space open to fill the placemat with glitter. Finish sewing around the rest of the cat.

7. Cut the treads.

8. Enjoy your new cat placemats!
