Here’s how I made this toy bin for my cat! He wasn’t thrilled but I was excited it matched the floor pillows I made a few years ago!
Supplies:
- Interfacing (I used a stiff apparel one, but I wish I used a stiffer craft one).
- Fabric (I used home decor fabric from Joann Fabrics)
- Lining (I used some denim I had laying around)
- Thread
- Pattern Paper
- Iron
- Ruler
- Pen
Steps:
- Make a square pattern. I made mine 13 inches by 13 inches and used 1/2 inch seam allowance. I cut out 1/2 inch squares from the bottom corners of the side patterns. For the bottom piece Cut out 1/2 inch squares from all four corners.
- Cut out 4 side pieces of the interfacing and 1 of the bottom piece.
- Cut out 4 side pieces and 1 bottom piece of the fabric and 4 side pieces and 1 bottom piece of the lining fabric.
- Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric.
- Sew the 4 sides of the lining together and the 4 sides of the fabric together.
- Sew the straight edges of the bottom fabric to the fabric cube and do the same to the lining bottom and lining cube. On one of the sides, leave 2 inches in the middle of a straight seem un-sewn.
- To sew the 1/2 squares on the bottoms, line up the side seams to create a straight line and sew them. This will create the corners being a 45 degrees from the straight edges. This will help create more defined corners.
- Flip the fabric bin inside out and put it into the lining fabric. Sew the top of the fabric and lining together.
- Flip the bag right side out where the 2 inches was left un-sewn and iron.
- Top stitch the top of the bag and lining together at 1/4 of an inch.
- Hand sew the 2 inch gap closed and enjoy!
